Top Reasons Not to Skip Dental Cleanings

Dental cleaning is something that we all skip from time to time. I think that the reason we skip the procedure is because we really don't understand how important it is. We think that because we spend time caring for our teeth each day, and get through the examination with out any problems that we can skip a cleaning and suffer no repercussions. Having been diagnosed with oral cancer that could have been caught earlier for a better outcome, I have learned just how important dental cleanings are. Learning why something seemingly unimportant is crucial to your overall health may help you reconsider skipping your next cleaning. This site will help you learn why dental cleanings are so important, by teaching you what your dentist looks for during the examination.

2 Herbal Rinses For Keeping Your Stent Bacteria Free After A Free Gingival Grafting Procedure

If you've suffered from periodontal disease, then your dentist may have recommended a free gingival grafting procedure in order to cover the exposed root. In order to cover all of your affected teeth, tissue is taken from the roof of your mouth. After the procedure is complete, your palate may feel like it has endured a mild burn. This can cause discomfort and aggravate the tissue. In order to protect the area, your dentist may give you a clear stent. The stent acts as a protective barrier between the tissue and any external elements. Since the tissue is still healing it is important to keep your stent bacteria free. Bacteria build up along your stent can result in an infection in your surgical site.  Luckily, there are a few tips to keep your stent clean of bacteria.

Comfrey Leaf Rinse

Comfrey rinse is most commonly used  to treat open wounds in order to prevent infection. The herb can also be used to soothe sore throats and colds because of its astringent properties. These properties help to keep the body free of bacteria. When used on your stent, it will help to cleanse the dental device. In order to create a comfrey leaf rinse, you will need fresh comfrey leaves. Place a pot of water on the stove to boil and add one handful of comfrey leaves. Once the pot boils, cover it and allow it to steep overnight. In the morning, add a few drops of lemon juice  the rinse, then use it to cleanse your mouth and stent.  Afterwards, rinse your mouth and stent with warm water.

Agrimony Rinse

Agrimony is frequently used to treat internal infections because it is a mild astringent. This allows it to treat sicknesses and ailment without being too harsh. In order to use agrimony on your mouth and stent, place a small spoonful of the dried herb into a cup of hot water. Allow the herb mixture to soak for several hours, then strain the herb from the cup. Use the remaining rinse to cleanse around your gum line and stent. Keep the rinse in your mouth for several minutes, using your head to move the rinse throughout your mouth. Use warm water to gently rinse the mixture out of your mouth. Use the agrimony rinse in the morning and night in order to keep your stent clean.

Keeping your stent bacteria free after your free gingival graft procedure will allow your mouth to heal properly. Therefore, use these herbal washes to help you do this. Contact a business, such as Smudde Family Dentistry Inc/Meredeth Gray DDS, for more information.
